Lidl-Trek launches women's development team

Lidl-Trek announced the creation of its women's development team, Lidl-Trek Future Racing Women, on October 28. This team is designed to nurture young talent and prepare cyclists for professional careers in the sport.

Team composition and members

The team will consist of ten cyclists from eight different nations, including Chantal Pegolo, Tabea Huys, Ane Zubeldia, Matilda Rossignoli, Kate Richardson, Olympia Norris-Mortensen, Liv Wenzel, Messane Bräutigam, Katherine Sarkisov, and Ella Sabo. These athletes come from diverse backgrounds and cycling disciplines.

Frank Schleck leads the team

Frank Schleck, a former professional cyclist and winner of the Amstel Gold Race in 2006, will lead the team. Schleck brings extensive experience in professional cycling and a deep understanding of the sport's demands.

Focus on development and support

Schleck emphasized that the team's goal is to provide young cyclists with the time, support, and opportunities needed to develop, without the immediate pressure of achieving results. This approach prioritizes growth over immediate success.

Selection criteria and team goals

The selection process considered potential, attitude, willingness to learn, and what each cyclist could contribute to the group. The team aims to prepare cyclists for the requirements of professional cycling, both on and off the bike, and to support cyclists from different disciplines.

Long-term investment in women's cycling

Schleck noted that the move to the WorldTour is becoming increasingly demanding and that the team's investment must go beyond the WorldTour team, as women's cycling is in full growth. This indicates a long-term commitment to the sport's development and expansion.
