New landfill expansion opens in Maine-et-Loire

On October 22, 2026, officials and representatives from the multinational company Suez officially opened an expansion of a landfill site in the north of Maine-et-Loire, located between Chenillé-Champteussé and Les Hauts-d’Anjou. The project aims to increase the area’s capacity for managing both hazardous and non-hazardous waste.

Annual waste processing capacity increases

The expanded landfill will now process 200,000 tons of waste annually, sourced from companies and industries across France. This represents a significant increase in the site's ability to handle waste compared to its previous capacity.

Environmental and regulatory considerations

The expansion was subject to environmental assessments and regulatory approvals to ensure compliance with local and national waste management standards. These measures aim to minimize the environmental impact of the increased waste processing.

Economic and logistical implications

The project is expected to create jobs and support local infrastructure, while also providing a centralized solution for waste management across a large region of France. It reflects a broader trend of investing in waste processing facilities to meet growing environmental and industrial needs.
