Ten years ago, La Place began to energize Paris with the rhythm of hip-hop. Located under the Canopy of the Halles, this venue has established itself as one of the key places for hip-hop in the capital, at the intersection of rap, dance, visual arts, and debate. The space has become a hub for cultural exchange, drawing artists and audiences from across the city and beyond. To celebrate this anniversary, more than fifty artists will perform over ten days of festival. The event promises to showcase the diversity and dynamism of hip-hop culture, with performances ranging from rap and dance to visual art installations and open discussions. The festival aims to highlight the evolving nature of hip-hop and its role in contemporary culture. On this occasion, Nina Masson receives Julien Cholewa, director and programmer of La Place, and Vicky R, Gabonese rapper, composer, and producer. Cholewa discusses the journey of La Place over the past decade, reflecting on its impact and the challenges of maintaining a space for creative expression in a rapidly changing cultural landscape. Vicky R shares insights into his work as a musician and producer, emphasizing the importance of collaboration and innovation in hip-hop. His participation in the festival underscores the global reach of the genre and the role of La Place in fostering international connections within the hip-hop community.
