A 29-year-old man named Jamie Allen has been sentenced to over three years in prison after threatening to stab an elderly woman following an argument linked to a fly-tipping incident. Fly-tipping refers to illegally dumping waste, such as the contents of a wheelbarrow, in someone else’s area. Allen was caught on a doorbell camera at an elderly couple's home days after they had told him they would report him to the local council for this act. The incident occurred on June 11 when Allen, from Duston, was heading to his ex-partner's house and passed by the couple's home. He became upset when he saw that the couple had installed a camera to record him. Footage released by Northamptonshire Police shows Allen approaching their front door, removing the doorbell cover, and pouring a can of alcohol over it. When the elderly couple opened the door, Allen began shouting at them and then pulled a knife from his waistband. He verbally abused them, threatened to stab the woman, spat in her face, and then walked away. The woman tried to stop him by grabbing his arm, but he continued his aggressive behavior. Allen was already wanted by police for controlling and coercive behavior against his ex-partner. He was later charged with multiple offenses, including two counts of threats to kill, assault by beating, possession of a knife in a public place, criminal damage to property, and engaging in controlling or coercive behavior. At his first court hearing, Allen pleaded guilty to five of the six charges, while one count of threats to kill was kept on file for further consideration. On September 4, at Northampton Crown Court, he received a 42-month prison sentence and two restraining orders. These orders prohibit him from contacting the elderly couple or his ex-partner, either directly or indirectly, for an indefinite period and five years respectively. Detective Constable McDaid from the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit described Allen's behavior as "completely unacceptable." He used threats, intimidation, and violence to control and frighten those around him, leaving lasting emotional effects on his victims. McDaid thanked the victims for their support during the investigation and praised the courage shown by Allen's ex-partner, who reported his controlling behavior, and the elderly couple, who stood up to him despite the threat of violence. The report was released with the victims' support following an investigation by the West LPA Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit (DAIU) and Response Team.
