Jakob Ingebrigtsen narrowly missed out on gold in the men's 5km at the World Road Running Championships in Copenhagen. Eritrean athlete Dawit Seare, the African 5,000m champion, secured victory with a national record time of 12 minutes and 56 seconds. In the final stretch of the race, Seare overtook Ingebrigtsen, who had recently won the 5,000m on the track at the Ultimate Athletics Championships in Budapest just eight days earlier. This race marked only Ingebrigtsen's sixth competition of an injury-plagued season. Despite a late push, he fell short of the win, finishing with a national record time of 12:59. Seare's compatriot Saymon Amanuel claimed bronze with a personal best of 13 minutes, though some reports differ slightly on his exact time. France's Jimmy Gressier, who had previously set a world-leading time of 12:51 earlier this year, finished 14th with a time of 13:17. In the women's 5km, Ethiopia's Likina Amebaw dominated the race, securing gold with a season's best time of 14:41. She finished seven seconds ahead of Kenya's Caroline Gitonga, who took silver. Australia's Rose Davies earned bronze with an area record time of 14:50. Britain's Hannah Nuttall rounded out the top 10 with a personal best of 15:08. The women's mile saw Agathe Guillemot of France claim victory with a time of 4:22.74, the fastest road time in the world this year. She overtook Ethiopian Freweyni Hailu in the final moments of the race, with Hailu securing silver in a season's best of 4:24.35. Kenyan Mirriam Cherop finished third in 4:25.71. Denmark's Annemarie Nissen, a local favorite, took fourth place with a new personal best of 4:26.78. In the men's mile, Germany's Robert Farken surprised the field by winning gold with a time of 3:51.80. American Yared Nuguse, who had led from the start, was overtaken by Farken in the final 100 meters, settling for silver with a season's best of 3:52.33. Luxembourg's Ruben Querinjean earned bronze with a new national record of 3:52.77. Britain's Jake Heyward finished 11th in a personal best of 3:55.76. The half-marathon events will take place on Sunday as part of a two-day running festival in Copenhagen, where elite athletes will compete for the titles.
