French rapper LinLin has released her debut album DISCO INFERNO on her label Punk Records, available since May 29. The 12-track project blends rap, French song, pop, punk, and house, produced by her partner Mob. LinLin describes the album as a love letter to the dancefloor and a reflection of her artistic freedom and emancipation. LinLin stated that the album's reception has exceeded her expectations, with the public validating her artistic vision. She emphasized that the project aimed to offer a sound that French audiences were not accustomed to hearing, and she feels this risk has paid off. The album's unique mix of genres and production styles sets it apart in the French music scene. LinLin began writing verses at age 10, influenced by her family's music tastes and her own experiences. She credits Mob with introducing her to electronic music, including influences such as Daft Punk and Gesaffelstein. She also cites Beyoncé as a major influence, aspiring to be a great performer. Her name is inspired by the character Charlotte LinLin from the One Piece manga, reflecting her identification with the character's leadership and respect in a male-dominated environment. She refers to her fans as "Charlotte," likening them to the character's followers. DISCO INFERNO was created during a difficult period in LinLin's personal life, including family illness and conflicts about her music choices. The album's title, which translates to "learn through suffering" in Latin, reflects this challenging period. The album's cover art features a minimalist design with dark tones and a prominent grillz, reflecting the punk spirit of the project. LinLin chose the cover to represent the album's musicality and her aesthetic sensibilities. The album is relatively short, with 12 tracks and 29 minutes of music, a deliberate choice to keep the listening experience focused and impactful. LinLin views the album as an experience rather than a film, emphasizing the emotional rollercoaster it offers. She expressed admiration for artists who create long-term visions, and she considered DISCO INFERNO as a comprehensive project. She also highlighted the importance of giving women visibility in rap, noting that female artists often do not support each other as much as male counterparts. LinLin is currently on a festival tour and will perform at the Gaîté Lyrique in Paris on January 13 and 14, 2027. She hinted at future collaborations and new projects, though she did not specify details. Her journey so far has been marked by both personal challenges and artistic triumphs, and she continues to push boundaries in the French music landscape.
