Stade Toulousain faces player shortage

The Stade Toulousain, currently at the top of the Top 14 league, is struggling with a large number of unavailable players, which is affecting their ability to prepare for upcoming matches. General manager Ugo Mola admitted he seriously considered pulling out of the next game against Pau due to the severity of the situation.

Injured players list is long

The team is dealing with a high number of injuries, with several players sidelined for weeks or undergoing reconditioning. The list includes Emmanuel Meafou, Tommaso Menoncello, Nelson Épée, Thibaud Flament, Thomas Ramos, Jack Willis, Clément Vergé, Juan Cruz Mallia, Julien Marchand, Santiago Chocobares, Alexandre Roumat, David Ainu’u, Malachi Hawkes, Pierre-Louis Barassi, and Valentin Delpy.

International call-ups add to the strain

In addition to injuries, the absence of key international players such as Antoine Dupont, Romain Ntamack, Ange Capuozzo, Peato Mauvaka, François Cros, and Dorian Aldegheri further weakens the team's depth. Ugo Mola stated the club has examined the reasons behind these issues, identifying both external and internal factors contributing to the problem.

Player load is complex to measure

Mola emphasized that the physical demands on players cannot be measured only by the number of matches they play. Factors such as position, injury history, age, and recovery capacity vary among players, making it difficult to assess their workload accurately.

Concerns over player management

Mola expressed concerns about the unrealistic expectations placed on clubs to manage all aspects of player performance and health. He warned that the current situation is a result of consecutive seasons without enough recovery or preparation time, and he noted that younger players are beginning to recognize the impact of such a demanding schedule on their well-being.
