An American Airlines flight traveling from Dallas-Fort Worth to Newark made an unexpected stop in Baltimore late Thursday night after a disruptive passenger caused a disturbance, the airline confirmed. The incident occurred on a commercial flight and led to the plane being diverted from its original route. According to video obtained by TMZ, several crew members and other passengers were seen working to restrain the man using duct tape. A photo from the flight shows the man seated in a first-class area with multiple loops of duct tape wrapped around his wrists, torso, and head. Witnesses told TMZ that the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol and began yelling at a passenger sitting next to him. A flight attendant tried to de-escalate the situation, but the man allegedly used a racial slur and made homophobic remarks. The situation escalated further when the man became violent, prompting the crew to restrain him and leading to the decision to divert the flight to Baltimore. Once law enforcement arrived, the man was taken off the plane, and the flight continued on to its original destination, Newark. American Airlines released a statement emphasizing that the safety and security of passengers and crew are their top priorities. The airline said it does not tolerate violence and praised the crew for their professionalism and the passengers for their patience during the incident. Separately, the FBI confirmed that the passenger is currently in custody on state charges. The agency is conducting interviews to gather more information about the incident and will consult with the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland to determine if federal charges should be filed. As of now, the suspect has not been officially identified.
