The Saint-Étienne municipal administration is welcoming Miriam Scherff, the mayor of Wuppertal, Germany, as part of a visit to strengthen the long-standing international relationship between the two cities. Saint-Étienne and Wuppertal have been twinned cities since 1960, a partnership that fosters cultural, economic, and social exchanges. Scherff's visit will take place from Friday, October 16, to Monday, October 19, and includes a series of events designed to reinforce their collaborative ties. Scherff’s visit will begin with a tour of the Geoffroy-Guichard stadium, home to Saint-Étienne’s football club, and the Musée des Verts, which showcases the history of the local sports team. This will be followed by a formal meeting at the city hall to discuss the future of the twinning agreement between Wuppertal and Saint-Étienne. Scherff will then meet with local stakeholders and take part in a guided tour of the city center, led by an audioguide from Germany, offering insights into Saint-Étienne’s urban landscape and heritage. On Sunday, October 18, Scherff will visit the Cité du design, a cultural and educational center focused on design and innovation, where she will attend a presentation on Saint-Étienne's strategy for promoting design, innovation, and urban attractiveness. A guided tour of the Musée d'Art et d'Industrie, which highlights the region’s industrial and artistic history, is also planned for that day. The visit will conclude on Monday with a concert of Mozart's Requiem at the church of the Terrasse at 5 p.m. The performance is organized by the amateur symphonic orchestra Saint-Étienne Musica and the choir Wuppertaler Kurrende. This event symbolizes the cultural exchange between the two cities and marks the culmination of Scherff’s visit, which aims to reinforce the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Saint-Étienne and Wuppertal.
