Convicted teacher sexually assaulted students
A 61-year-old former teacher was found guilty by the correctional court in Valence of sexually assaulting eleven young students, according to the local news outlet Ici Drôme Ardèche. The man, who lived in the Vaucluse region, taught flute and piano lessons at music schools in Nyons and Dieulefit, as well as at a media library in La Bégude-de-Mazenc.Abuse occurred over seven years
The abuse took place between 2016 and 2023, during which time the teacher targeted children aged 6 to 12 years. The victims described similar experiences, including the man pressing against them, massaging their shoulders, and then moving his hands over their chest, stomach, and sometimes even their pubic area, often after locking the door to ensure privacy.Defendant claimed it was for posture correction
In his defense, the teacher claimed his actions were intended to correct the students’ posture and breathing. However, the victims’ families described the profound distress and daily anxieties the girls experienced. One victim wrote, "We grew up too quickly and it's disgusting," a statement read aloud by her mother during the hearing.Accused denied sexual intent
The accused admitted to being "tactile" but denied any sexual intent. The public prosecutor rejected these claims, calling the behavior a dangerous outlet for the man’s impulses and emphasizing the harm caused by his denial. The judges did not accept the defense’s request for an acquittal.Sentence includes probation and restrictions
The court sentenced the man to four years in prison, with three years on probation. Additional requirements include mandatory care, a ban on being in the Drôme region, registration in the sex offender database, and a permanent prohibition on working with minors.
