The RCT (Rugby Club Toulon), currently ranked 13th in the league after three rounds with no wins but three defensive bonuses, is focusing on developing its young players to lead the team during the upcoming World Cup. Manager Pierre Mignoni is preparing for the absence of many of the club's international players, who are likely to be called up by their national teams. The club has a strong squad and plans to bring in more young talent in the coming weeks to fill the gap. For this season, 23 of the RCT's international players are expected to be called up by their respective national teams, though the likelihood varies for each. This means a significant portion of the squad will be unavailable for club matches. Mignoni mentioned in a press conference after the Castres-Toulon match that he has already started preparing for these absences. The players called up for national duty are expected to miss nearly half of the league season. The 2027 World Cup, which will be held in Australia, will require players to be away for a few more days than previous World Cups held in France. Because of this, Mignoni stressed the importance of having a backup plan, such as promoting more young players into the club's starting lineup. He noted that the situation will be different from the last World Cup in France, where nearly half of the Top 14 teams had to play without their international players. Looking at Toulon's current squad, the club will need to strengthen certain areas during the off-season. In the forwards, Baptiste Serin and Ben White are the only professional players in that position and are likely to be called up for the 2027 World Cup. In the center, Huw Jones, Ignacio Brex, and Gaël Fickou are expected to be selected for the national team, while Antoine Frisch is less likely to be called up. At the number eight position, Gianmarco Lucchesi is expected to be selected, possibly leaving Teddy Baubigny on the bench, with only Pierre Damond as a backup. Additionally, players whose contracts will end in June 2025 may need to be replaced by young talent this season.
