Nigeria's Dangote refinery completes IPO

Nigeria's Dangote Petroleum Refinery, owned by businessman Aliko Dangote, completed the largest initial public offering (IPO) on the African continent. The IPO allowed the company to raise capital from investors across 120 countries, marking a significant milestone for African financial markets.

IPO extended to include more African investors

Originally scheduled to end on October 13, the IPO was extended by two weeks to provide more Africans with the opportunity to participate. This adjustment aimed to increase local involvement in the company's growth and development.

Amount raised not disclosed but claimed to exceed target

The company did not publicly reveal the exact amount raised during the IPO, stating its initial target was $1.6 billion. However, Aliko Dangote claimed in early October that the target had been surpassed "by more than three or four times."

Dangote highlights historic success for Africa

In a statement released on Tuesday evening, Aliko Dangote described the achievement as a historic success for Africa. He emphasized the importance of belief in the continent, collaboration, and investment in Africa's future.

Refinery aims to become the world's largest

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery, located in Lagos, has a current capacity of 700,000 barrels per day. The company plans to double this output to 1.4 million barrels per day, which would make it the world's largest refinery, surpassing the Jamnagar refinery in India.
