La Fève releases new album

French rapper La Fève has released his second album, Finis-les, marking a significant moment in his career as he continues to shape the landscape of French rap. The album, released on October 23, follows a trajectory of success that began with his EP Kolaf and the tape ERRR, which helped reinvigorate French rap during the post-Covid era.

Career trajectory and achievements

La Fève, who is based in Fontenay-sous-Bois, has previously made a name for himself with his nostalgic track 24, which filled the Adidas Arena with 8,500 attendees. His mixtape Biglaf further solidified his position among American rap contemporaries.

Album title and themes

The title Finis-les, which recurs throughout the album, serves as an affirmation of La Fève's unique place in French rap, addressing rappers, the industry, and detractors. The album showcases his fiercely independent and artistically ambitious approach, synthesizing the experimental spirit of his earlier work, including the extensive volumes of EMPTY THE BIN.

Musical style and influences

Despite a luxurious trap setting largely imagined by his loyal accomplice Lyele, La Fève has managed to twist the genre to find his uniqueness. The album features contributions from star producer Zaytoven on the outro, while also incorporating elements of G-funk and a detour to Detroit with Rim’K.

Cultural and musical fusion

La Fève has incorporated influences from South African townships under the influence of local electronic music, gqom, a striking idea that subverts the club heritage of trap while merging it with a genre that shares a dark and hypnotic aesthetic.
