BYD strengthens its European presence with over 22,000 registered vehicles in France and plans to expand its production and sales network across the continent.
BYD's European growth continues
Havana Lan of BYD stated that the company's commitment to establish itself sustainably in Europe remains unchanged. As of the end of September, BYD has already exceeded 22,000 registered vehicles in France. Vehicle mix in France
Lan noted that the company is in a phase of development and always seeks to improve. Plug-in hybrids represent 64.9 percent of BYD's registrations in France, while electric vehicles account for 35.1 percent. Future vehicle strategy
Lan emphasized that the company's strategy involves continuing to develop both plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, as manufacturing these powertrains is a strength for BYD. Market trends and import concerns
Lan mentioned that the market share of electric vehicles increased significantly in September, and orders for battery vehicles followed this trend. Regarding a recent announcement about a potential limit on the importation of Chinese hybrid vehicles to Europe at 350,000 units per year, Lan stated that the company has not yet received all the details and remains waiting for more concrete information. BYD's production in Hungary
However, this does not impact BYD's strategy, as the company is finalizing the construction of its plant in Hungary, which should begin production by the end of the year. The site will initially produce electric models, Atto 2 and Dolphin, but it is very flexible and capable of accommodating super hybrid technology. Expansion plans in Europe
BYD is also currently looking for a second, or even a third, site in Europe. The company has 130 sales points in France and is very satisfied with the development and performance of its network. Sales point goals
Lan stated that the goal remains to reach 200 sales points by the end of 2026, even if not all will be open by that date. The company has already identified many locations with its distributors and is finalizing the choices. Denza distribution strategy
For the distribution of Denza, BYD stated that investors already engaged with BYD can position themselves if they wish, but the company remains open to discussions with other partners. However, the Denza and BYD showrooms will be completely distinct. New vehicle at Paris Motor Show
At the Paris Motor Show, BYD is unveiling the Atto 8, a 5-meter SUV. Lan explained that while the vehicle is large, there is a customer base for this type of vehicle, particularly families looking for seven seats. Ultra-fast charging technology
The model is also the first in the range equipped with the second generation Blade battery, allowing a charge from 10 percent to 70 percent in 5 minutes, and from 10 percent to 97 percent in 9 minutes. This model symbolizes BYD's expertise in ultra-fast charging, a technology that will be implemented on other models in the range starting next year. Supercharger network development
To fully benefit from this technology, BYD needs to plug into its superchargers. The company plans to deploy its network of superchargers starting in 2027, aiming for at least a hundred in France as quickly as possible. The first supercharger is already installed in a BYD dealership in Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône (95) and will be operational in a few weeks, not only for BYD customers.
