Village seeks new butcher

The village of Châtonnay in Isère is looking for a new butcher after being without one for over two years. The local population of around 2,000 people has had to travel to nearby towns for meat purchases during this time.

Mayor invests in shop renovation

The mayor, Jean-Michel Nogueras, has allocated 30,000 euros to renovate the old butcher shop to meet current sanitary standards. The funds have been used for repairs such as tile work, electrical upgrades, painting, and carpentry.

Residents travel for meat

For the past two years, residents of Châtonnay have been traveling to Saint-Jean-de-Bournay or Champier, both within 10 km, to purchase meat. The mayor hopes the shop will reopen before the end-of-year holidays to restore this local service.

Complementing local services

The mayor believes the return of a butcher will enhance the village's existing services. The commune already has a small supermarket, bakery, tobacco shop, and medical office, though a florist recently closed with no plans for reopening.

Two candidates in consideration

The mayor is in contact with two serious candidates interested in taking over the butcher shop. One local candidate is scheduled to visit the site on October 17. The municipality may offer six months of rent-free occupancy to encourage the new owner to set up shop.

Low-cost rent planned

After the initial six months, the mayor expects the rent to remain modest. The goal, as stated by the mayor, is to provide a valuable service to the local population.
