Location of the submarines

L’Île Longue is an island situated opposite the city of Brest in the Finistère department of France. It is home to the four SNLE, which are nuclear-powered submarines that play a crucial role in France's nuclear defense strategy.

Youth training program

Each year, 60 young individuals who are part of the Naval Military Preparations (PMM) spend a week at L’Île Longue. This program is designed to give them hands-on experience and insight into the operations of the country’s nuclear submarines.

Access to the SNLE

During their visit, the participants had the opportunity to board the SNLE « Le Téméraire ». This allowed them to explore the submarine and gain a better understanding of its structure and function.

Media coverage

Ouest-France, a regional newspaper based in Brittany, accompanied the group during their visit. This provided the public with a rare glimpse into the workings of France’s nuclear deterrent forces through the eyes of the young trainees.
