Fabrice Poulain, the newly appointed president of EDV Grand Est, opened the current convention at the Shandrani Beachcomber in Mauritius. The event brought together 46 participants, including two agencies not affiliated with EDV, for a series of conferences, roundtables, an inverted workshop, and practical sessions. Poulain, who is also the general director of Fensch Voyages, emphasized that he is continuing the work started by Michelle Kunegel, the former president of EDV Grand Est and director of LK Tours. He highlighted ongoing discussions from last year on artificial intelligence and customer behavior, and expressed a desire to begin a recruitment drive for new members. The convention also included an update on the current market situation and the activities of travel operators. Guillaume Beurdeley, deputy general secretary of EDV, presented the latest data from the EDV Orchestra barometer, noting a slight improvement in August following a difficult spring affected by the Middle East conflict. The number of departure files decreased by 5.5% year-on-year, a smaller decline than the 9% recorded in August. The volume of business fell by 4.1%, but the average basket increased by 1.5%, reaching 1,853 euros. In terms of reservations, there has been a return to normalcy, with a 1.7% decrease in the number of files in September, but a 3.3% increase in the volume of business. The average basket reached 2,004 euros, an increase of 5.1%. Fatima Faivre, director of the Prêt-à-Partir network, noted that the middle class was missing this summer, but was compensated by individuals with more time and money, such as active workers and retirees. She expressed optimism, stating that this year has been positive overall. Fabrice Poulain noted that operators in the Grand Est region are more resilient to the current crisis, citing their geographical positioning, which allows access to a wide range of possibilities from Strasbourg, Basel-Mulhouse, and Luxembourg. They can benefit from the competitive prices of German tour operators and the quality of Luxair and LuxairTours, the leading tour operator in the Grand Est region. Régis Heitzler, founder of Voyage De Rêve in Neuf-Brisach, near Switzerland and Germany, noted that higher salaries and less pronounced purchasing power issues, along with particularly competitive offers from German travel agencies, benefit the region. Philippe Blanchet, commercial director of Euro Moselle Loisirs, confirmed this, highlighting the proximity to Luxembourg, where many French workers earn higher salaries and retirees are less affected by inflation. Both emphasized the advantage of the extensive medium-range network of Luxair, enabling access to a wide range of destinations.
