Copper exploration expands beyond known regions

Copper exploration is growing beyond traditional areas like the Copperbelt, which is a major mining region in Africa, into other parts of the continent. This shift is driven by the search for new copper deposits to meet rising global demand.

Serval Resources seeks funding for exploration

Serval Resources, a British junior mining company, announced on October 15 its plan to raise 6.5 million pounds sterling (8.6 million USD) through a share placement. The funding will support copper exploration in Namibia, Botswana, and Côte d'Ivoire, pending regulatory approvals.

Funding structure includes multiple components

The company’s funding plan includes a firm placement of 2.5 million pounds, an additional placement of 3.5 million, and a subscription of 0.5 million. Serval has already completed the order book, which involves gathering investor interest to finalize placement terms. The first tranche of shares is expected to be issued by Friday, October 16.

Exploration projects in multiple African countries

The funds will support a 20,000-meter drilling program in Namibia on the Kaoko basin project, with the goal of identifying a copper deposit by 2027. In Botswana, the focus will be on identifying exploration targets before a 3,000-meter drilling program. In Côte d'Ivoire, Serval plans to continue preliminary work on its Duékoué project.

Growing demand drives investment in copper

The increase in exploration efforts is linked to forecasts of rising copper demand, which may outpace supply over the next decade. S&P Global Energy & Market Intelligence estimates a potential copper deficit of 10 million tons by 2040 if new production is not developed, creating opportunities for companies like Serval.

Serval aims to benefit from potential copper shortage

Serval Resources aims to capitalize on the expected copper shortage by developing new resources. The success of its exploration initiatives will depend on the effective use of the raised funds and the outcomes of its drilling and prospecting efforts in the coming months.
