Dell introduces a new 32-inch 4K monitor

The Dell 32 Plus (S3225QS) is a new model in Dell's Plus range, featuring a 31.5-inch VA panel with a 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. It is part of a series that includes a smaller 27-inch model with the same 4K at 120 Hz technology.

Multiple variants and price differences

Dell offers a 32 Plus S3225QC variant with a QD-OLED panel, which is significantly more expensive. The S3225QS uses a standard VA panel and is compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium. It is primarily designed for office use but can also handle some gaming.

Reduced price and availability

The monitor is currently available at a reduced price of 356.10 euros on Amazon, down from its listed price of 429 euros. This makes it more accessible for users looking for a large, high-resolution display without the premium price tag.

Display quality and color accuracy

The 4K resolution provides a pixel density of 139 pixels per inch, ensuring sharp text even when multiple windows or long spreadsheets are displayed. The VA panel offers a native contrast ratio of 3000:1, better than IPS panels for deep blacks in dimly lit environments.

Color space coverage and calibration

The monitor covers 99% of the sRGB color space and 95% of DCI-P3, suitable for amateur photo editing. However, Dell does not provide a calibration report with the screen, which may be a drawback for professionals requiring precise color accuracy.

Design features and adjustability

The design includes thin borders on three sides and a 3H anti-reflective treatment. The base is adjustable in height by 100 mm, tilts from -5° to +21°, and can tilt 4° to the left or right. It does not support rotation or portrait mode.

Mounting options and screen size

The monitor includes a VESA 100 x 100 mounting option for an articulated arm. The screen's width is more than 71 cm, which may take up significant desk space, especially in smaller work areas.

Port selection and connectivity

The monitor has two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4, all of which support 4K at 120 Hz. This allows for connecting a compatible PC and console simultaneously without cable switching, offering convenience for users with multiple devices.

Performance in gaming and FreeSync support

FreeSync Premium helps smooth out variations in image frequency, and Dell states a response time of 4 ms in the fastest mode. While sufficient for casual gaming or relaxed evening sessions, VA panels may leave a slight trail on dark transitions, making them less ideal for competitive FPS gaming.

HDR and audio capabilities

The monitor is compatible with HDR10, but the HDR effect remains discreet due to a typical brightness of 300 cd/m² and edge lighting. The two 5 W speakers are adequate for video calls or YouTube videos but are not recommended for music or movies, where external speakers or headphones would perform better.

Overall purpose and value

Overall, the Dell 32 Plus (S3225QS) is primarily a sharp large screen for office work, with 120 Hz support as a bonus. It offers good value for those who need a high-resolution display for productivity, with some flexibility for light gaming or multimedia use.
