Joshua Cassara, a Marvel illustrator, has passed away at the age of 46. His wife, Martha Cassara, shared the news on social media on September 23, 2026, stating that his death was due to cardiac complications. Cassara was known for his illustrations on X-Force, X-Men, and Deadpool/Wolverine at Marvel. He began his career in the middle of the 2010s, working at the British publisher Titan Comics on titles such as The Troop, Mycroft Holmes and the Apocalypse Handbook, and publications related to the Doctor Who and Dark Souls universes. In 2016, he made his debut with Marvel on New Avengers #7, scripted by Al Ewing. He later worked on Falcon with Rodney Barnes, the miniseries Sentry written by Jeff Lemire, and several episodes of Venom. Cassara's career took on new dimensions in 2019 when he joined Benjamin Percy on X-Force, one of the series launched as part of the new era of X-Men organized around the mutant island of Krakoa. His detailed illustrations accompanied several of the major mutant stories of the following years. In 2020, Marvel selected him among its "Stormbreakers," a program dedicated to a new generation of artists from the house. He then reunited with Benjamin Percy on X Lives of Wolverine. The series was published in France as X Deaths of Wolverine in X Lives / X Deaths of Wolverine (Panini Comics, Marvel Deluxe, 2024, translation by Benjamin Rivière and Studio Makma). Cassara also worked on the main series X-Men, scripted by Gerry Duggan; part of his work was notably included in X-Men, vol. 2: X-Men un jour... (Panini Comics, 2025, translation by Ben KG). Cassara reunited once again with Benjamin Percy for Deadpool/Wolverine, launched in the United States in 2025. In France, the first five episodes are collected in Deadpool/Wolverine T01: L'ère de Stryfe (Panini Comics, 2025, translation by Studio Makma and Benjamin Viette). The sequel and conclusion, Deadpool/Wolverine T02: L'héritage perdu (Panini Comics, translation by Benjamin Viette), was published in France on March 4, 2026. The album collects episodes 6 to 10, drawn by Joshua Cassara and Robert Gill. Throughout a relatively short career, Cassara accompanied a period in the recent history of X-Men at Marvel, from the birth of Krakoa to its later years, while developing a regular collaboration with Benjamin Percy around Wolverine and the mutant universe.
