The Eure department, located in the Normandy region of France, is highlighting its artistic legacy through several new projects. Among these is a series of five in situ artwork commissions, meaning the pieces are created specifically for their locations. These works, collectively named SPOT, will be unveiled during the Heritage Days on 18, 19, and 20 September. They will remain on display until 5 December in various places across the department, offering visitors a chance to experience contemporary art in everyday settings.
One of the highlights is the opening of the Maison Bonnard, a former home and studio of the painter Pierre Bonnard. Located in the small village of Ma Campagne, the house was acquired by the local government in 2023 and is now open to the public for the first time. Inside, visitors can see an immersive painting by Flora Moscovici, which uses bold, vivid colors inspired by Bonnard’s own palette. This artwork invites viewers to experience a dynamic visual journey through color and form.
In the Old Mill of Vernon and at the Château des Tourelles, artist Makiko Furuichi is creating imaginative creatures inspired by yōkai, which are mythical beings from Japanese folklore. Meanwhile, in the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame in Vernon, Lucie Reverdiau is crafting a sensory installation using natural elements such as bark, branches, and plants. Her work is inspired by the surrounding landscape and aims to connect visitors with the natural world through tactile and visual experiences.
William Amor is using recycled materials to create a poetic installation in the church of Sainte-Radegonde in Giverny, a location closely associated with the painter Claude Monet. Nearby, at the Baudy Hotel, Olivia de Bona is contributing to the area’s artistic history with a diverse collection of works, including paintings, engravings, illustrations, and marquetry. These pieces reflect her personal style and the hotel’s historical connection to local artists.
Visitors to the Eure department can explore these artworks for free, with many of them accessible during walks through the region. A detailed event calendar accompanies the installations, offering additional opportunities to engage with the local culture and art scene.
