A new dark adaptation of Charles Dickens' Scrooge is scheduled to hit theaters on November 11, 2026. Directed by Ti West, known for his work in horror and suspense, the film stars Johnny Depp as the titular character, Ebenezer Scrooge. The first trailer for the movie was released on July 24, 2026, offering a glimpse into Depp's portrayal of a man confronting his past, present, and future in a journey toward redemption. The film is described as a thrilling ghost story, set in the foggy, atmospheric streets of 19th-century London, blending elements of comedy, fantasy, and horror. The trailer emphasizes the film's darker tone, particularly highlighting the depiction of the Christmas spirits—ghostly figures who guide Scrooge through his life lessons. These characters are portrayed as both eerie and compelling, adding to the film's suspenseful atmosphere. The adaptation appears to take a more sinister approach than previous versions of Dickens' classic tale, focusing on the psychological and emotional turmoil of its protagonist. In addition to Depp, the film features an ensemble cast that includes Ian McKellen, known for his roles in fantasy and drama, as well as Daisy Ridley, Rupert Grint, Sam Claflin, and Andrea Riseborough. The supporting cast also includes Charlie Murphy, Ellie Bamber, Henry Lloy-Hughes, Tramell Tillman, Robert Strange, and Zac Wishart, each bringing their own depth to the story's various characters. The film's release comes at a time when classic literature is being reimagined through modern and often darker lenses. This version of Scrooge promises to offer a fresh take on Dickens' story, appealing to fans of both the original tale and contemporary horror and fantasy genres. With its mix of well-known actors and a director renowned for his distinctive style, the movie is expected to draw significant attention from both critics and audiences alike.
