A cabinet official from the Trump administration appeared to attempt to touch the backside of a congresswoman as she took the stage at the Republican Party's midterm convention in Texas. The incident happened as Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner was leaving the stage. Turner was captured on video swiping his arm downward and backward as Representative Anna Paulina Luna passed by. In the video, Luna does not appear to react to Turner's movement and continues toward the microphone. The Independent has reached out to both Luna and HUD for comment. Political analyst Rachel Bitecofer noted on X (formerly Twitter) that "Sec. of HUD Scott Turner appears to attempt to slap the behind of Rep. Anna Paulina Luna when exiting the stage." Meanwhile, a social media user asked, "Did Tim Scott just bail on slapping Anna Paulina Luna’s butt as she was walking out on stage at the Republican midterm convention?" A pro-Trump X account, Johnny Maga, believed to have connections to a White House staffer, called the near-miss moment "the absolute save of the century." Turner, who was confirmed in February 2023, previously served as the Executive Director of the White House Opportunity and Revitalization Council. He also held office in the Texas state legislature and played for nine seasons in the NFL. The incident has drawn attention to the informal and sometimes chaotic nature of political events, especially those tied to the Trump administration. Other notable moments at the convention included Democratic Senator John Fetterman delivering a surprise video message to attendees and an animated speech from Senator Tim Scott, which was mocked online. These events highlight the mix of serious political messaging and lighter, more entertaining moments that often accompany such gatherings.
