Nevers' poor start in Pro D2

Nevers, currently at the bottom of Pro D2 with four points, has lost all eight of its opening matches and is preparing to host Brive on Friday. Despite the bleak position, the team still has 22 matches remaining in the season to improve its standing.

Uneven performance in the first half of the season

According to Rugbyrama, Nevers had a two-faced start to the season. The team initially lost four matches by narrow margins, earning bonus points, but then suffered four more defeats without scoring a single point against Oyonnax, Nice, Agen, and Aurillac.

Significant drop in performance

The results show a significant decline in performance. In the first four rounds, Nevers lost by a cumulative margin of nine points, but in the next four matches, the deficit increased to 92 points. The 41-16 loss to Aurillac on October 23 highlighted this downturn, with Nevers falling behind by 21 points in the second half.

Challenges facing the team

President Régis Dumange remains confident in the club, but flanker Julien Kazubek believes the team must confront the threat of relegation directly. Kazubek points out that the squad struggles to produce complete performances, with poor starts and ineffective second halves. Injuries are also affecting the team, with several key players absent.

Club's strategy and future hopes

Dumange has emphasized a strategy focused on developing young players, and the team fielded eight young players in the match against Aurillac. However, this long-term vision now faces the immediate challenge of survival in the league. Nevers is currently five points behind Béziers and eight points behind Nice, both of whom are in 15th and 14th places respectively.

Brive's difficult run

Brive, currently fifth in the league with 21 points, is not in strong form either, having lost three consecutive matches. Despite this, Brive’s position in the standings is more secure than Nevers’. The match between Nevers and Brive on Friday will be crucial for both teams as they face their own challenges in the league.
