Minister announces new measures for farmers in distress

Annie Genevard, France’s Minister of Agriculture, announced new measures to help farmers suffering from drought and summer heatwaves during a meeting on October 14. These efforts aim to improve awareness of existing support systems and ensure farmers can access them more easily.

New resources to assist farmers

The minister revealed plans to publish a national register of support devices for farmers in difficulty, along with contact information. This information will be shared through various channels, including the MSA, 12,000 local "sentinels," associations, and state services.

New advisor joins the effort

Annie Genevard is now supported by Charles Peronne, her new advisor in charge of agricultural distress. Peronne will help guide state agents in the prefectures to better assist farmers in need. A guide will be provided to help these agents direct farmers effectively.

Flash mission to assess distress

The minister also announced a flash mission by the CGAAER to quantify the extent of agricultural distress. This initiative aims to create a more accurate and robust method for measuring the crisis and responding appropriately.

Calls and interventions show demand

Between September 1 and October 6, the MSA funds initiated more than 25,000 outgoing calls and conducted over 1,000 social interventions, showing a high level of need among farmers seeking assistance.

Future plan to improve support

A new plan to improve the prevention and support of agricultural distress is expected to be launched in early 2027. The plan will focus on better managing actions, directing individuals to the right services, and avoiding procedures that could worsen farmers’ situations.
