A recent comparison of high-end laptops priced over 1,500 euros by the Frandroid team highlights the strengths of both Apple and Windows-based machines. Led by laptop expert Hugo Cléry and presenter Arnaud Gelineau, the team tested four flagship models using a system of beads in transparent tubes to visually represent differences in performance, battery life, display quality, and build. Apple's MacBook Pro M5 Pro stood out for its exceptional performance, largely due to Apple's control over every component, from the hardware to the software, which allows for optimized system performance. In terms of battery life, the Asus Zenbook Duo was a strong contender, offering up to 20 to 25 hours of use when its secondary screen was turned off. Apple’s display technology also received praise, particularly its OLED screens, which offer superior contrast and brightness due to advanced backlighting technology. These features make them stand out in terms of visual quality compared to many competitors. The Dell XPS was noted for its ultra-thin and lightweight design, but this came at a cost—some physical ports were omitted, such as an HDMI port, which means users often need to use adapters. In contrast, the MacBook Pro M5 Pro offered a range of ports, including three Thunderbolt 5 ports, an HDMI port, an SD card reader, and the return of MagSafe for charging—features that enhance connectivity and convenience. The Samsung Galaxy Book 6 Ultra was also highlighted as a strong competitor to the MacBook, offering a heavier build but with a premium finish and a high-quality AMOLED screen. While Apple's MacBook Pro M5 Pro leads in performance, the Windows-based laptops still offer compelling alternatives. The Asus Zenbook Duo, for instance, provides a dual-screen setup that enhances multitasking and versatility. The Samsung model includes a dedicated graphics card, which is ideal for gaming or graphic-intensive tasks. This comparison shows that users may choose between Apple’s raw power and the broader software flexibility offered by Windows laptops, depending on their specific needs.
