Coaching change at Orléans Loiret Basket

The Orléans Loiret Basket (OLB) has announced the departure of head coach Lamine Kébé, following a poor start to the season. The club released a brief statement on Thursday, confirming that the coaching duties would be temporarily taken over by assistant coach Pierre Tillay.

Kébé's tenure ends amid poor performance

Lamine Kébé, 39, is being held responsible for the team's struggles. Orléans currently sits in 13th place with just 2 wins and 3 losses. The team's recent loss to Blois in the Centrico derby, where they lost 80-103, was seen as a turning point for the club.

Kébé's uncertain future

Despite the dismissal, Kébé expressed uncertainty about his future. In an interview with ICI Orléans, he said, "Am I in danger? But I have always been in danger. It is the role of a coach. I do not control that, I focus on the team."

Kébé's background and achievements

Lamine Kébé grew up in Orléans and began his coaching career with local youth teams. He was recognized as the best U15 coach in 2015 and later coached national team prospects like Victor Wembanyama. His most recent achievement was a silver medal at the U19 World Cup.

Potential replacement for Kébé

Laurent Vila, 51, is being considered as Kébé's successor. Vila, who has experience with clubs like Pau and Strasbourg, is currently an assistant coach with the French national team. He has been linked with the OLB position since Kébé's departure.

Kébé's final comments on his future

Despite his dismissal, Kébé remained optimistic. He told ICI Loiret, "I have confidence: I know I will be around for a long time. I know I will be on the Orléans bench during the 38th round of the league, that's all."

OLB's statement on Kébé's departure

The club reiterated that it would not comment further on Kébé's situation during the ongoing process. It confirmed that Pierre Tillay would be interim coach, supported by the entire technical staff.

Kébé's return to Orléans

Lamine Kébé returned to his hometown club in the summer of 2024, lured by the ambitious Loire project. He had previously coached in Pôle France before joining OLB, which has one of the largest budgets in ÉLITE 2.

OLB's ambitions and current challenges

Despite significant investment, OLB has struggled to meet expectations this season. The team's elimination in the Cup and a weak league record have raised concerns. The club's ultimate goal is to return to the top division, but this season has not gone as planned.
