In the ongoing storyline of the popular British soap opera Emmerdale, Joe Tate, played by Ned Porteous, is consumed by a desire for revenge against Ruby Milligan and her brother Caleb Milligan. He blames them for the death of his estranged wife, Dawn, whose passing was linked to a tragic car accident. Joe believes Ruby and Caleb misled Dawn into thinking she was about to marry a dangerous man, prompting her to accept their help in fleeing the country with her children. Dawn eventually returned to seek forgiveness, but her life was cut short during childbirth due to the accident. Joe's grief has turned into anger, and he has taken drastic steps to express his vengeance. He has refused to allow his children to attend Dawn's funeral and has decided to give up their nameless baby son for adoption. On the day of the funeral, Joe’s stepfather, Graham Foster, arrives late, and Kim Tate, Joe’s estranged wife, steps in to honor her late stepdaughter, pledging to hold the family together. However, Joe shows no interest in reconciliation, walking away from the event, seemingly abandoning his family. As part of his revenge, Joe has taken an even more extreme measure: he has buried Ruby alive in a coffin. Ruby is trapped, struggling to escape as the air runs out. Caleb, upon learning of his sister's fate, tries to confront Joe, but is met with cold amusement. Joe revels in the torment he is inflicting, refusing to show mercy or reconsider his actions. Caleb pleads for forgiveness, but Joe remains unmoved, determined to see his revenge through. The tension continues to build as Caleb seeks ways to either change Joe’s mind or find his own path to redemption. The situation has left the Milligan family in a state of deep crisis, with Ruby’s fate hanging in the balance and the emotional scars of Dawn’s death still fresh. The unfolding drama highlights the intense emotional stakes and complex relationships that define Emmerdale’s compelling narrative.
