A feature-length film titled One Of Our Own – A Hope Street Film is set to return to the fictional town of Port Devine, giving fans a chance to "tie up loose ends" as BBC Northern Ireland's Commissioning Editor Mary McKeagney explained. The film will bring back several beloved characters from the popular television series Hope Street, including Niall Wright, who reprises his role as Callum McCarthy, now promoted to Detective Constable. The film is scheduled to release later this year after a limited theatrical run.
New first look images have been released, showing that a daylight assault will bring Callum back to Port Devine to investigate. Cameron Cuffe, who joined the series as new police constable Donal Gallagher in the fifth season, will also appear in the film, marking the first time the two characters share the screen. An image of their on-screen interaction has already been shared with fans.
Callum is determined to uncover the truth behind the assault and identify those responsible, but he is soon faced with delivering difficult news to his former colleague and close friend Marlene Pettigrew (played by Kerri Quinn), as he suspects her romantic partner may be involved. Meanwhile, at The Commodore, the local pub, Nicole Devine-Dunwoody (Niamh McGrady) has a new admirer, and plans for a wedding are underway. Paddy Raff joins the cast as the pub’s new chef, Malcolm, while Letitia Hector will portray Marlene’s love interest, Anna Baptiste. Tim McGarry will also appear in a cameo role as Reverend Dodds, the town’s minister.
Finnian Garbutt, who played PC Ryan Power in the latest three seasons of Hope Street, will appear in a scene he filmed earlier in the year before his passing. The film will introduce new characters and aim to provide a satisfying conclusion to ongoing storylines. McKeagney expressed hope that the movie will offer fans a perfect opportunity to resolve lingering plot threads while delivering the dramatic storytelling that the show is known for. The first five seasons of Hope Street are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
