A new trailer for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has been released, offering a glimpse into the game's opening cinematic. The trailer showcases a dramatic confrontation between Shadow 22, the leader of the elite Shadows of the Sotoa Air Force unit, and the Joker Flight, a group of pilots under the command of the "Wings of Theve." As the release date approaches, Bandai Namco, the game's publisher, continues to share more details about the story and gameplay features. In Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, players will take control of a squadron tasked with defending the Federation of Central Usea (FCU), a fictional geopolitical entity, from enemy pilots. The game promises a variety of mission types, with Mission 7 being particularly notable for its annihilation battle format. In this mission, players must destroy a set number of targets—such as solar power plants, oil reservoirs, air bases, or ammunition depots—within a limited time. The mission allows for a high degree of freedom in how players approach the objectives, including the ability to return to reload weapons using supply lines. The game introduces a chain destruction system, where the destruction of one object can trigger the collapse of nearby structures. For example, blowing up a fuel tank could cause surrounding buildings to collapse, and the crash of a downed aircraft might damage ground structures. These mechanics add a layer of strategy and unpredictability to combat scenarios. Among the game's most impressive features is the inclusion of oversized military machines. One such example is the Megafloat Fatsia, an artificial military island six kilometers long, equipped with a 2,000-meter runway, CIWS (Close-In Weapon Systems), surface-to-air missiles, railguns, and drones that can extend its surveillance range up to 400 kilometers. Another significant threat players will face is the Tonitrus Spear, an attack satellite orbiting at an altitude of 500 kilometers. This kinetic weapon uses heavy metal rods to strike the ground, causing massive destruction without radioactive fallout. Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve is set to release on October 2 for PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
