Sony funds book boxes for Ishiguro novel

Sony Pictures is funding ten book boxes containing copies of Klara and the Sun, a novel by Kazuo Ishiguro translated by Anne Rabinovitch. The novel is being adapted into a film, and each box includes a message from Jenna Ortega, who plays the title character in the movie.

Boxes placed in public areas

The book boxes are being installed in various locations, including The Grove in Los Angeles, with additional installations planned in Washington and Tennessee. These boxes are part of a campaign to promote the upcoming film.

Film release dates announced

The film is set for release in France on October 21, 2026, and in the United States on October 23, 2026. The books used in the boxes are sourced from Penguin Random House, a major publishing company.

Additional boxes distributed

In addition to the ten funded boxes, fifty other boxes from the Little Free Library network will receive two books and promotional items. The locations of these boxes can be found through the association’s mobile app.

Promoting reading and access

This initiative is part of a broader effort by Sony Pictures and the Little Free Library to promote reading and provide access to books in underserved communities. The collaboration builds on a previous partnership during the release of the film's first trailer.
