Ben Stiller is set to return as Greg Focker in a fourth film titled My Father-in-Law, My Daughter-in-Law and Me, which is scheduled for release on November 25. The film is a continuation of the Meet the Parents franchise, which originally starred Stiller in the role of Greg Focker, a well-meaning but socially awkward man trying to win the approval of his girlfriend’s family. The project was initially developed in the late 1990s by Jim Carrey, who had previously starred in The Mask, Dumb and Dumber, and The Truman Show. Carrey came up with the surname Focker during a creative meeting, as he recalled in a 2008 interview on Larry King Live. He later praised Stiller’s performance, saying the film was "exactly how it should have been done." Steven Spielberg was initially interested in directing the film but eventually stepped back, according to director Jay Roach, who shared this in a 2025 interview with Yahoo! Movies. Spielberg admitted he was nervous about directing a comedy and ultimately chose not to take on the role. Jim Carrey remained involved with the project but eventually left due to scheduling conflicts. Roach, who directed My Father-in-Law with Stiller in the role of Greg Focker, said that Carrey had convinced him to return to the project. Carrey expressed no regrets about leaving, saying in 2008, "How could I have regrets. At the time, I was at the top, at the banquet table. Life isn't so bad!" The film My Father-in-Law was released in 2000 and was well-received for its humor and Stiller’s portrayal of Greg Focker. The new film promises to continue the story, bringing back familiar characters and comedic situations. With Stiller reprising his role, fans of the franchise are eagerly anticipating the latest installment. The trailer for My Father-in-Law was released earlier this year, generating excitement and curiosity about the film’s direction and storyline. The new film marks a significant milestone for the Meet the Parents series, which has been a staple of family comedies since its debut. It also highlights the evolving nature of film projects, where initial ideas and cast members can change over time. Despite the changes, the core humor and themes of the original films remain intact, ensuring that the new movie will appeal to both longtime fans and new audiences.
