SteelSeries, a well-known brand for gaming accessories like headsets, keyboards, and mice, has launched its first wireless gamepad, the Aeon Pro. Designed for PC and Xbox users, the Aeon Pro is a high-end controller priced at $259.99 (or around 259.99 euros), set to begin shipping on September 8, which marks the company’s 25th anniversary. The controller is aimed at serious gamers who want a premium device with advanced features and customization options. One of the standout features of the Aeon Pro is its QuickSwitch Dock, which allows users to switch seamlessly between PC and Xbox without complicated setup. The dock also serves as a charging station and storage for the controller. Another key innovation is the Infinite Power System, which includes two hot-swappable batteries. This means users can replace a depleted battery with a charged one without interrupting gameplay, similar to how some of SteelSeries’s audio headsets operate. The Aeon Pro also incorporates Hall effect joysticks, which use magnetic sensors instead of physical contact points. This design helps prevent "drift," a common issue where the controller’s cursor moves on its own due to wear and tear. All the buttons on the controller use mechanical switches, offering a more responsive feel similar to that of a gaming keyboard. An integrated OLED screen lets users access saved profiles and adjust settings directly on the device, while modular sticks with three different joystick shapes are included for customization. Additional features include four rear paddles, which are fixed in place to prevent the wobbling that can occur with removable designs. While the Aeon Pro allows for basic control remapping and rumble sensitivity adjustments on the device itself, more advanced settings—like stick deadzones and profile management—require the SteelSeries GG software on a PC. At nearly four times the price of a standard Xbox controller, which typically costs around $60, the Aeon Pro is a significant investment. SteelSeries claims its high price is justified by the promise of uninterrupted gameplay and a drift-free experience, which are ongoing concerns for many gamers. The controller is available in black or white and can be purchased through the SteelSeries website and select retailers.
