Raid at a bar-tabac in Nîmes

Last May, gendarmes from the Gard group raided the Cygne bar-tabac, a business located in the capital of the Gard department, France. The military police searched the premises and seized multiple cartons, nearly one million euros in cash, and items such as gold and luxury watches.

Seized items and charges

The items were found in the reserve area of the bar. The couple who ran the business has since been arrested and charged with several offenses, including possession of narcotics, aggravated money laundering, and complicity in operations to hide or preserve the proceeds of crimes or tax fraud.

Legal actions and release

The businesswoman requested and received judicial control through her lawyer, Maître Hugo Ferri, and was released from detention last week. Her husband, who was also charged, recently asked for his release through Maître Laurence Bourgeon, but the Nîmes court of appeal has repeatedly denied his request.

Ongoing investigation

The gendarmes continue their investigation into the case, which involves allegations of criminal activity linked to the bar-tabac business. The husband remains in provisional detention while authorities probe the circumstances surrounding the seized assets and the charges against the couple.
