Election annulled in Saint-Fons

The administrative court in Lyon canceled the recent municipal election in Saint-Fons, a town in the Lyon metropolitan area, after finding issues with the process. This decision affects the mayor-elect, Hadi Mebarki, who is affiliated with the left-wing party La France insoumise (LFI).

Previous mayoral victories overturned

This is not the first time an election victory by a member of La France insoumise has been annulled. Earlier decisions had overturned the wins of mayors Idir Boumertit in Vénissieux and Abdelkader Lahmar in Vaulx-en-Velin, both also from LFI.

LFI candidate wins with 40.75% of votes

The list "Saint-Fons insoumise," led by Hadi Mebarki, secured 40.75% of the votes in the second round of the March 22, 2026, election. This result was enough to win the mayoral seat, but the court has now declared the election invalid.

Incumbent mayor fails to advance

The previous mayor, Christian Duchêne, who represented the diverse left, did not pass the first-round threshold. He received only 709 votes in the March 15 election, which was insufficient to proceed to the second round.
