Netflix expands Coben's film library
On August 27, 2018, Harlan Coben, an American author with 90 million books sold worldwide, signed a five-year contract with Netflix. The exclusivity agreement, estimated at several million dollars, provided for the adaptation of fourteen of his already published literary works into films or series.Collaboration extended and expanded
In October 2022, Netflix renewed its commitment by extending the collaboration and adding twelve new titles to its project catalog, including popular novels featuring former FBI agent Myron Bolitar. Eight years later, twelve previously unreleased thrillers are now available on Netflix.New titles and notable cast
The titles include Intimidation (2020), Dans les bois (2020), Innocent (2021), Disparu à jamais (2021), Ne t'éloigne pas (2021), Hold Tight (2022), Double Piège (2024), Missing You (2025), Just One Look (2025), Caught (2025), Ne t'enfuis plus (2026) and Sur tes traces (2026). The miniseries Safe, released in May 2018 and broadcast internationally on the platform but on the C8 channel in France, is also included in this list.Success of Safe led to the deal
It was following this public and critical success that the distributor proposed this lucrative contract to the writer. Safe was released eight years ago and is not based on any existing thriller by Harlan Coben, but it remains the best miniseries of the author. Firstly because of its plot: Safe features chilling plot twists and skillfully dispensed false leads.Production quality and cast
Furthermore, this entertainment was not created hastily and benefits from genuine expertise and meticulous collective work, making it one of the most complete adaptations of the author's universe. The script was entrusted to the BAFTA award-winning screenwriter Danny Brocklehurst, while Red Production Company, the British company of StudioCanal, was responsible for the production.Character depth and conclusion
Viewers can particularly identify with Tom Delaney played by the star of Dexter. Indeed, some of his initiatives are somewhat eccentric but he remains above all a father willing to do anything to save his child. Amanda Abbington, Marc Warren, Audrey Fleurot and Hannah Arterton complete this prestigious cast. Finally, Safe stands out for its breathless conclusion, driven by a final twist as unexpected as gripping.
