President Donald Trump recently nominated Kimberly Greenwood, the wife of country singer Lee Greenwood, to serve as the United States ambassador to Barbados and several other Caribbean nations. The nomination was submitted to the Senate alongside numerous other appointments for judges, ambassadors, and administration officials. If confirmed, Greenwood would serve as ambassador to Barbados and also act as the U.S. top envoy to Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines—all without additional compensation. This practice is common, as many of these small island nations do not have separate U.S. diplomatic posts and often share an ambassador. In a social media post, Kimberly Greenwood expressed gratitude to President Trump, calling the nomination "one of the greatest honors of my lifetime." She pledged to work to earn the Senate's confidence and to build relationships with the people of the nations she would represent. Lee Greenwood, her husband and the singer of the popular patriotic song "God Bless the USA," also praised her, saying she would serve with "humility, dignity, and a sincere desire to strengthen the friendships between the United States and the people of these seven Caribbean nations." Kimberly Greenwood has had a long professional relationship with Trump, predating her marriage to Lee Greenwood. A former Miss Tennessee, she worked with Trump for years when he was the owner of the Miss Universe pageant. She directed state-level beauty pageants, including Miss Tennessee, Miss Mississippi, and Miss Georgia. Lee Greenwood highlighted her dedication, noting she worked with Trump for 18 years through the Miss Universe Organization. The Trump administration has been noted for appointing political allies to ambassadorial roles, a trend highlighted by a recent Washington Post review. Many ambassadorial positions remain unfilled, and Trump has nominated other political figures, such as former Senate candidates Herschel Walker and Kari Lake, as well as former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, to serve as ambassadors to other countries.
