In a near-future world marked by a sharp decline in fertility and the rise of authoritarian regimes, Johanna and Henri, two dedicated geneticists, find themselves unable to have children. Desperate to overcome this, they form a pact with Melon Smuk, a brilliant technologist, to create a human being in vitro, regardless of the ethical or societal consequences. From this experiment is born Gabriell, a child raised in secrecy, shielded from the outside world. When she is eventually taken from her isolated paradise, she begins a journey to find her parents and discovers a world ravaged by techno-fascism, environmental collapse, and the failure of utopian ideals. Her quest transforms into a search for joy, beauty, and the collective strength to envision a different kind of future. This theatrical piece reimagines the classic Faust myth, drawing from the original story by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe but shifting its focus away from its traditional masculine and romantic themes. Instead, it reflects on modern-day "pacts" with the Devil—symbolizing technology, capitalism, and the destruction of life. The performance is created through spontaneous improvisation and on-the-spot writing, exploring both the dark and luminous sides of human desire to create, understand, and heal the world. FauWst is directed and collectively written by Hector Manuel. The cast includes Leslie Bernard, Marion Couzinié, Julien Derivaz, Margaux Grilleau, Matthias Jacquin, Hector Manuel, Alexandre Virapin, and Adèle Zouane. Julia Riggs is responsible for the light design, Marine Iger for the sound design, and Hector Manuel also composed the music with arrangements by Pierre Cohen. Nathalie Saulnier designed the costumes, and Malène Seye oversaw the general stage management and production. The performance is produced by Collectif BAJOUR and co-produced by EMC 91 – Espace Marcel Carné (Saint-Michel-sur-Orge), Le Canal (Redon), Théâtre Romain Rolland (Villejuif), L’envolée (Val-Briard), and Le Pont des Arts (Cesson-Sévigné).
