Mayotte's fire services and union join Téléthon 2026 with weekend donation drives and a major event in December.
Téléthon 2026 preparations underway
The Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) and the Departmental Union of Firefighters of Mayotte (UDSP 976) are preparing for Téléthon 2026, a fundraising event for people with rare diseases. They are organizing donation drives in several towns on the island of Mayotte during the weekends of November. Donation events across multiple locations
Donation collections will take place in businesses across Pamandzi, Labattoir, Mamoudzou, Dzoumogné, Combani, and Malamani. These events aim to raise awareness and funds for the Téléthon, which supports research and care for individuals with neuromuscular and rare diseases. Main event scheduled for December 5 and 6
The main Téléthon event will be held on December 5 and 6 at the Place de la République in Mamoudzou. It will feature demonstrations of first aid, road rescue, and water rescue, highlighting the work of local firefighters and emergency services. Schools and medical mission to participate
Several schools in Mayotte will also take part in the Téléthon. In addition, a medical mission by AFM-Téléthon is being planned for January 2027 to meet families and assess children with suspected neuromuscular or rare diseases, though the visit is still pending confirmation. Donations accepted until January 31, 2027
Donors can contribute to the Téléthon at rescue centers in Mayotte until January 31, 2027. The event is part of a broader effort by local organizations to support those affected by rare diseases through fundraising and awareness. Mayotte Hebdo's role in the community
