New 5G+ service for crowded events

Orange has introduced a new service called Fast Pass 5G+ for 5 euros, offering dedicated bandwidth on its mobile network when antennas are overloaded. This is aimed at events like concerts, festivals, and stadiums, where regular network performance can degrade due to high user density.

Eligibility and network requirements

To use the Fast Pass 5G+, users must have an eligible Orange mobile plan, a 5G+-compatible phone, and be in an area covered by Orange's 5G+ network. The 5G+ network uses the 3.5 GHz frequency, which offers faster speeds but has a shorter range compared to other frequencies.

How to activate the pass

The Fast Pass 5G+ can be reserved in advance, with activation scheduled as early as 3 a.m. on the chosen day or triggered immediately on the same day. A subscription made between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m. starts at 3 a.m. and lasts until 11:59 p.m. the next day. Orange recommends booking the pass for the day before arrival.

Limitations and performance factors

Orange notes that the service has limitations, such as no guaranteed minimum speed. Its effectiveness depends on several factors, including coverage quality, antenna capacity, the user's phone performance, and the number of people using the pass simultaneously. In cases of extreme network saturation or weak signals, the benefits of the pass may be limited.
