Charlotte Church, the Welsh singer and former child prodigy, is selling her historic home in Barry, South Wales. The property is a 17th-century cottage, one of the oldest in the Old Village area, and is now on the market for £695,000. The four-bedroom home, which has been extensively renovated, includes a hidden music studio within its lush, tropical-style garden. Church and her husband, musician Jonathan Powell, bought the cottage about two years ago after selling their larger home, The Spinney, in nearby Dinas Powys. Church originally purchased The Spinney, a six-bedroom mansion, in 2010 for £1.3 million after her separation from former Wales rugby player Gavin Henson. After significant renovations, she married Powell at The Spinney in 2017. The mansion reportedly sold in 2024 for £2.1 million, though Church admitted at the time that she had spent nearly all her life savings on the renovations and was no longer a millionaire. The couple decided to move to Barry partly to be closer to Church’s family. The cottage in Old Village may look modest from the outside, but inside it offers a spacious and unique living experience. Church and Powell have described it as a "real Tardis," a reference to the time-traveling British TV show, highlighting the contrast between its unassuming exterior and expansive interior. The home includes three reception rooms, an open-plan living area, and a modern kitchen and dining space. On the upper floor, there are four bedrooms, a family bathroom, and a separate shower room. One bedroom includes an en suite and access to a flat roof section perfect for sunbathing with sea views. Outside, the garden has been transformed into a jungle-like retreat inspired by the couple’s travels in Morocco and Africa. The space is filled with banana plants, fruit-bearing shrubs, herbs, and fragrant flowers. Additional features include an elevated barbecue area with a pergola, a patio, a workshop, and storage sheds. The property also has a private driveway that can accommodate four cars. Located near the seafront, the cottage is close to several parks and natural areas, including Romilly Park, Cold Knap Lake and Gardens, and Porthkerry Country Park. Church and Powell said they love the house for its "spirit" and how it feels "alive and balanced." The cottage is currently listed for sale with Fine & Country, South Wales, at a guide price of £695,000.
