Essex cricketer Robin Das, 24, has been charged with two counts of rape. He is set to appear at Inner London Crown Court on Friday, 9 October, following charges filed on 23 July 2026. The charges stem from his arrest on 27 August 2025, which came after reports of a woman being raped in Brixton on 30 March 2024. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the charges and noted that the victim is receiving support from specialist officers. Robin Das is a top-order batter who has played for Essex County Cricket Club, making 60 appearances in total. His last match for the club was a One-Day Cup game against Middlesex on 21 July, which was his only senior appearance in the 2026 season. Following his arrest, Essex confirmed that Das had been suspended from the team, effective two days after his final appearance. In a statement, Essex County Cricket Club said that a male player under contract with the club appeared in court regarding an incident that occurred outside of club activities. The club emphasized that it has been in contact with various cricket authorities, including the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA), and the Cricket Regulator, as well as the player himself. The club has maintained an immediate and ongoing suspension and will follow all legal processes and guidance. It reiterated its commitment to strict safeguarding and human resources procedures, ensuring all employees uphold high standards of professional conduct. Das made his debut for Essex in 2020 and has played in various formats of the game, including nine first-class matches, 29 games in 50-over cricket, and 24 T20 matches. Two of his T20 appearances were for the Dhaka Dominators in the Bangladesh Premier League. As legal proceedings continue, the club has stated it will not make any further comments on the matter.
