New posters reveal Sauron's forces

The third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will release on November 11 on Prime Video, with new posters highlighting Sauron's forces. The posters focus on Sauron (Charlie Vickers), who is shown fully armored and wearing his dark metal crown, also known as Morgoth's crown, in front of four of his new servants, the Nazgûl, who make their debut in this season.

Proto-Nazgûl and their origin

These characters are described as "proto-Nazgûl," still in human form before being consumed by the rings of power and becoming the ring's spirits. The term was invented by the showrunners from the "Black Speech," a mix of nazg (ring) and nagôl (servant), meaning "servant of the ring."

Actor insights on the Nazgûl

One of the Nazgûl, Khamûl the Oriental, will be portrayed by Zubin Varla (Andor), who mentioned in an interview that his character will follow "the same path as Gollum": "Evil begets evil, and violence begets violence. Their souls and bodies are corrupted until they are literally hollowed out, almost devoid of any physical form."

Setting and visuals of the new season

Another poster shows one of these Nazgûl on his rearing horse in the plains of Mordor, with the Mountain of Fate in the background. The third season will also see the appearance of the elf Celeborn, husband of Galadriel, portrayed by Jamie Campbell Bower (Vecna in Stranger Things).

Cast and storyline of the third season

The actor joins the cast of Morfydd Clark, Robert Aramayo, Charlie Vickers, Owain Arthur, and Benjamin Walker. The third season takes place five years after the events of the second season, as the war between the Elves and Sauron is in full swing.

Sauron's goal in the new season

The lord of darkness seeks to forge the One Ring, the weapon that will give him the decisive advantage to win the war, enslave all peoples to his will, and finally reign over all of Middle-earth.
