Céline Dion has begun her residency at the Plenitude Arena in Paris, and in celebration, the city is hosting a free, open-air karaoké event in the 19th arrondissement. Organized by the City of Paris, the event requires registration and is expected to draw 10,000 attendees. Participants are encouraged to dress in iconic looks associated with the singer, including wigs, stage costumes, gloves, and sunglasses, adding to the festive and immersive experience. Céline Dion is regarded as the "uncontested queen of karaoké in France" by Bam Karaoké Box, a company that offers karaoké experiences in Paris and Bordeaux. The company reports that her songs "J'irais où tu irais" and "Sous le vent" are among the most requested, with "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" ranking fifth. However, in other countries where the company operates, such as Spain and the United Kingdom, Céline Dion's songs are less popular in karaoké settings. Uber has joined the celebration with its own "Karaoké" initiative in Paris, offering two specially themed vans where passengers can sing their favorite songs. The most requested tracks include "J'irais où tu irais" and "Pour que tu m'aimes encore," with "My Heart Will Go On" coming in fourth. According to Uber, the initiative aligns well with the buzz created by Céline Dion's residency, which they describe as a "strong news event" that provides an excellent opportunity to promote their service. Barbara, a 30-year-old comedian and regular karaoké attendee, notes that while people are generally forgiving of imperfect singing, there is a noticeable preference for better performances. She mentions that "Sous le vent" is the most frequently performed song at the pub she visits, followed by "J'irais où tu irais" and "Pour que tu m'aimes encore." Barbara explains that songs that evoke nostalgia are more frequently performed, and duets are popular because they allow for a more comfortable vocal range, making the experience more enjoyable for participants.
