The Heritage Foundation has announced that it will distribute grants ranging from 100,000 to 500,000 euros to 18 selected regional heritage sites as part of the 9th edition of the Heritage Lottery. The total amount allocated is 7.45 million euros. In addition to these 18 sites, 100 recently unveiled departmental projects will also receive funding, though the exact amounts will be announced by the end of the year. The selection process considers factors such as cultural and historical significance, the site's condition, the project's development stage, its impact on the local area, and the proposed plan for preservation. A key source of funding for the Heritage Foundation is the "Mission Heritage" scratch-off game, which costs 15 euros and offers players the chance to win up to 1.5 million euros. For every ticket sold, 1.86 euros is donated to the foundation. In addition to the scratch-off game, eight lottery draws will be held, each with a minimum jackpot of 2 million euros. A larger "Super Lottery" will be held on Friday, September 18—just before European Heritage Days—with a jackpot of at least 13 million euros. Since its first edition in 2018, Mission Heritage has supported the restoration of over 1,080 heritage sites across France. The foundation reports that more than 70% of the selected projects are either fully preserved or close to being saved, with 281 projects currently underway and 514 completed. Anyone interested in identifying sites at risk can report them through the foundation's website, missionbern.fr/signaler-un-site. These reports can be submitted at any time throughout the year. Applications for the 2027 edition of the emblematic sites of Mission Heritage must be submitted by November 15, 2026, for the main sites, and by February 28, 2027, for departmental projects. Some of the sites selected in 2026 for funding include the Grand Thermes in Châtel-Guyon (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), the Fosse Dionne in Tonnerre (Bourgogne-Franche-Comté), and the Chapel Notre-Dame du Kreisker in Saint-Pol-de-Léon (Bretagne), among others. The grants range from 100,000 to 500,000 euros, with several sites receiving the maximum amount.
