The Inrap, a French archaeological organization, is organizing a range of events in Burgundy-Franche-Comté to promote preventive archaeology. As part of the European Days of Heritage, the Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs (DRAC) Burgundy-Franche-Comté is inviting the public to visit its headquarters in Montigny and Dijon. Visitors will have the opportunity to interact with archaeologists, manipulate models of excavation sites, learn how to handle delicate archaeological objects, and view historical photographs of Dijon. The event will take place on Saturday, September 19, from 10 am to 12:30 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm, with free entry. For the European Days of Heritage 2026, which will be held on September 19 and 20, the Dijon Archaeological Museum is hosting several free activities under the theme "Heritage in Peril." These include guided tours on the history of archaeology, the forgotten Dijon Castle, and the history of conservation. From 2 pm to 6 pm, families and children can participate in interactive games and activities to explore the museum's collections. A debate on the issue of looting will also be held, featuring representatives from the Regional Archaeology Service, the museum, and Inrap. The event will run from 10 am to 6 pm on both days with free entry. A conference titled "Between excavation and building study. The latest results of archaeological research carried out on the cellars and residence of Clairvaux in Dijon" will be presented by Clarisse Couderc, head of archaeological research at Inrap, and Sylvain Aumard, scientific and technical delegate and operation manager at the Centre d'études médiévales (CEM). As part of an ongoing study of the Cistercian buildings in Dijon, Inrap and CEM have conducted an in-depth examination of the attics of the Clairvaux cellars and residence. The event will take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 2:30 pm, by reservation only, with limited places available. The location is the Cellar of Clairvaux, 27 Boulevard de la Tremouille, 21000 Dijon. In La Cluse-et-Mijoux, a weekend of science and archaeology events will take place, offering visitors a chance to explore the castle in a new way. The program includes experiments, demonstrations, and various activities that allow participants to understand archaeology and heritage sciences. Visitors can observe, manipulate, and learn about the methods used to uncover the past and revive ancient skills. The event is in partnership with Inrap and will be held on Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 10 am to 6 pm at the Château de Joux La Cluse-et-Mijoux, 25300 La Cluse-et-Mijoux. In Ray-sur-Saône, the castle is currently undergoing a restoration project, and the Haute-Saône department has enlisted Inrap to conduct various studies. During the Heritage Days, visitors can view the results of these archaeological investigations and learn about the study of archaeology in buildings through an exhibition. The event will take place on Sunday, September 20, at 4 pm at the Château de Ray-sur-Saône, 18 Rue du Château, 70130 Ray-sur-Saône. In Mâcon, an exhibition titled "From the Gauls to the House of Archaeology" traces sixty years of archaeological discoveries in the region, helping to understand the lives of the Gauls in Mâcon and the Saône Valley. Alongside panels and showcases, visitors can explore a reconstructed Gaulish interior and test their observation skills. Some objects in the display are deliberately anachronistic, and participants who identify them will receive a reward. The event will take place on Saturday, September 19, from 2 pm to 6 pm, and on Sunday, September 20, from 10 am to 12 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm, at the House of Archaeology, chapel of the Recollets, 13 rue Senecé, 71000 Mâcon. In Auxerre, the museum and the Pays d'art et d'histoire are inviting the public to explore the Neolithic period. The program includes an "archéochrono" exhibition, an exhibition titled "Prehistoric DNA" that showcases findings from the Noisats site in Gurgy, and a screening of the France Télévisions documentary In the Skin of the First Farmers of France. Objects from the museum's collection will also be on display. On Saturday, Inrap archaeologists will host interactive sessions and activities focused on the Neolithic era, including presentations on agricultural tools, a whetstone workshop, and the discovery of burial practices. The event "Let's Talk Neolithic with Inrap" will take place on Saturday, September 19, from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 6 pm. Exhibitions will be open on both days from 10 am to 6 pm, and the documentary will be shown on Saturday and Sunday at 11 am and 4:30 pm.
