Ed Sheeran's planned concerts at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, have been canceled due to severe weather. The shows, originally scheduled for Friday and Saturday, were called off as a nor'easter—a type of storm common along the East Coast—approaches the region with heavy rain and strong winds. Insiders previously told TMZ that stage construction had been halted because of the storm, with forecasts predicting one to two inches of rain and winds reaching 40 mph. Stadium staff confirmed that the decision to cancel was made due to the approaching weather conditions. The cancellations come at a time of controversy for Sheeran's ongoing U.S. tour. Earlier this month, rapper Macklemore was removed as a support act after making pro-Palestine comments at a previous concert. Macklemore claimed that Robert Kraft, owner of Gillette Stadium and the New England Patriots, personally called Sheeran to inform him that Macklemore would not be allowed to perform at the venue. Sheeran later said he would not engage in a public debate about the Gaza war and described the decision to remove Macklemore as the promoter's choice. Following Macklemore's removal, other opening acts also withdrew from the tour in solidarity. During a recent concert, Sheeran broke down in tears while reading a prepared statement, expressing his concerns about the situations in Israel and Gaza. He stated he continued with the show to honor his commitment to fans, emphasizing that performing is "completely central to who" he is. According to a Wall Street Journal source, Kraft told Sheeran during their phone call that Macklemore's comments were considered hate speech and not freedom of speech, referencing a 2014 incident when the rapper was accused of antisemitism for his on-stage outfit. The tour promoter stated that the decision to cancel the shows was made with the safety of fans, staff, and everyone involved as the top priority.
