A few days before the IAA Transportation fair in Hanover, which runs from September 14 to 20, Tesla shared details about its Tesla Semi for the European market. The information was released via email on September 11, 2026. The company announced plans to deliver the Semi in Europe by 2027, which has been seen as a positive step for the electric truck industry. However, the technical details shared by Tesla do not seem to offer anything particularly new or tailored to European needs. Comparing the European data with the "Standard Range" model already sold in the U.S., it becomes clear that Tesla has simply converted its American specifications into metric units. For example, the estimated range of the European version is 550 km, which is roughly equivalent to the U.S. version's 325 miles. Similarly, the energy consumption and charging times remain largely unchanged, with only minor adjustments in units. The unladen weight and total combined weight also align closely with U.S. figures, adjusted to meet European legal limits. The European version of the Tesla Semi is still awaiting official approval, and details about the long-range variant remain unclear. For months, the "European version" of the Semi has been a subject of speculation, but Tesla has only announced the Standard Range model, which uses the smallest battery. The Long Range variant, which features an 822 kWh battery and can travel up to 800 km on a single charge, has not been mentioned in the European context. This version also has a higher charging power of 1.2 MW, which was demonstrated in the U.S. but is not included in the European announcement. By not including the more powerful battery and charging capabilities, Tesla's European offering appears less competitive compared to established truck manufacturers like Volvo Trucks, Mercedes-Benz, and MAN. These companies have already made significant strides in the electric truck market in Europe. Without the advanced features of the Long Range variant, Tesla's European Semi may struggle to make a strong impact in a market where electric trucks are gaining momentum.
