Chris Carter, the creator of The X-Files, has not ruled out the possibility of bringing back the iconic duo of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for a new season. The show, which originally aired from 1993 to 2002, became a cultural phenomenon with its blend of sci-fi, mystery, and conspiracy theories. After a long hiatus, The X-Files returned with two seasons in 2016 and 2018, both still on FOX. While these later seasons were met with mixed reviews compared to the original run, the show remains beloved by fans who long for the return of its most famous characters. Carter has expressed a strong desire to reunite with actors David Duchovny, who played Mulder, and Gillian Anderson, who portrayed Scully, for a potential 12th season. In an interview with Collider, he emphasized that any new season would only happen if both actors are on board. “I cannot, and do not want to, do it without them,” Carter said. He has already spoken with Duchovny and Anderson, but both are currently very busy with other projects. Meanwhile, a separate X-Files reboot is in development by director Ryan Coogler, known for Creed and Black Panther, for the streaming platform Hulu. This reboot will not feature Mulder and Scully, and Carter has stated that he is not involved in this project. However, he has praised Coogler’s vision and expressed “total respect” for his work. The reboot is still in early stages, and no release date has been announced. For fans eager to revisit the world of The X-Files, a director’s cut of the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe, titled Vrach Frankenshteyn in some regions, is now available on Disney+. The version includes additional scenes and is part of the film’s bonus features, offering a deeper dive into the story. As the future of the X-Files universe remains uncertain, fans continue to hope for new adventures featuring Mulder and Scully.
