Casey Affleck, 51, recently shared that his father, Timothy Affleck, has passed away this year, following the death of his mother, Chris, earlier this summer. The actor revealed the news during a press event at the Venice Film Festival, where he was promoting his latest film, Company, which he also directed. Casey was accompanied by his girlfriend, Caylee Cowan, and his two sons, Atticus and Indiana, as well as other cast members of the film. His brother, Ben Affleck, 54, was also present, offering support. Casey described the film as a tribute to both of his parents, who died within the past year. "It's dedicated to my parents because I lost both my mom and my dad this year, and they were very important to me," he said. "I really wanted to show this movie to them, and I didn't get to. I think they would have liked it." Chris, Casey and Ben’s mother, passed away on June 2 at the age of 83. Her death came after she was told she had six months to live in December 2025. She had hoped to see her grandson, Casey’s son Atticus, graduate from high school, which she attended with the family on May 31. She died two days later from cardiopulmonary arrest at her son’s home, according to her death certificate. Chris and Timothy Affleck, the children’s father, divorced when Ben and Casey were young. Timothy had worked as an actor and playwright before struggling with alcoholism. He later became a counselor at an alcohol rehabilitation center in California after achieving sobriety in 1990. Ben Affleck has previously reflected on his father’s journey, describing his recovery as "the principal lesson and legacy of his life." In 2020, he told People magazine, "Part of being an adult is learning that your parents are just people. They're not perfect. They were just doing their best." Timothy’s story of overcoming addiction and finding purpose in helping others has been a significant influence on both Ben and Casey. Casey’s film Company is his third directorial project and is competing in the prestigious Venice Film Festival. The movie, which blends elements of drama and introspection, has drawn attention for its emotional depth and personal significance. As the Affleck family mourns the loss of both parents, the film stands as a tribute to their impact on Casey’s life and career.
